Hey there! Anyone miss me? :) It has been a busy, but wonderful, four days since I last had the time to post. I did catch myself a couple times today thinking, what day is it today? Is it Tuesday or Wednesday? But don't worry, I'm not complaining!
As you all know, I had my baby shower on Saturday, which was WONDERFUL! I was actually getting contractions on Friday, and then on Saturday morning, which concerned me slightly. I had to remind this little girl that she just needed to wait another 24 hours! :) Of course, I have pictures from the shower to post, thanks my cousin Trish~

As you can hopefully tell from the pictures, the shower was SO MUCH FUN, and I was so happy to have a lot of my family and friends there. :)
Sunday was pretty low-key... Ryan worked on the dresser for the nursery on Sunday afternoon, while I kept myself busy getting the nursery somewhat in order. On Monday, my Mom and I set out so I could get the "necessities" we needed before baby girl arrives. (like, uh, a mattress, for one) THAT made me feel a lot better, knowing we are pretty much set for when she comes home.
Today I went to get the car seat inspected by the local fire department. THAT was interesting! See, Ryan honestly couldn't see why we'd need to get it inspected, but everyone, including the hospital, insisted that all parents should get it done. So, anyway, after I got there, two of the firemen got on either side of the Explorer, and fiddled with the car seat. One of the guys turned to me, and asked, "Who installed this?" Uh oh, I thought. "My husband did," I told him. "Well, he did a really good job," he said. "Yeah, tell him if he needs a part-time job, he could teach the people here in ______ (name of our town) a thing or two," the other guy told me. Of course, when I told Ryan, he got a real kick out of that. :)
I'm honestly pretty ready for our baby girl to arrive. I'm ready to be past this whole pregnancy part, and move on to being a mom. :) At this point, it feels like I've been pregnant forever! I just can't wait to see her.

What a day. :) First off? It's my LAST DAY OF WORK today!! It's really bittersweet, though. I'm moving on to the biggest, most meaningful job of my life, but it doesn't mean I can't miss the friends I've made here. They surprised me with bagels, an impromptu speech, and a STARBUCKS gift card "to tide you over till the baby comes." :)
Secondly? I had my 37 week doctor's appointment yesterday afternoon, and.... I'VE MADE PROGRESS! My doctor said that she's engaged down in my pelvis, and I'm a fingertip dilated. (basically means 1 cm dilated, according to my Yahoo! search) Sure, I know it's not that much, but those are both new developments since last week! :) It also means that I'm one step closer to delivering, which calms my fear that I could somehow be pregnant forever. :)
Third, my baby shower is tomorrow!!! I am SO very excited! Friends, a whole bunch of family, even a couple of coworkers all will be there, so it's bound to be a great time. :) I'm sure I'll have a picture or two to share!

You know, you really don't realize just how much you rely on a website, such as Blogger, until you can't use it! It finally just let me log on... and it's been giving me grief all week... what can you do? Just know that I wasn't trying to be so distant. :)
I'm 37 Weeksand 1 Day today, which means we have a whole 20 days left until my due date! This stage of pregnancy is fun in some ways, but, I have to be honest, truly miserable in other ways. It's obviously all worth it, and honestly it's the most amazing thing ever to see her movements so clearly, and be able to recognize an arm, leg, foot, or rump. :) Every time it really gets my attention, and often times she makes me laugh.
Thing is, my belly is so large now that I'm pretty much almost always uncomfortable, especially at work. Standing, laying, walking, sitting... there's no getting around it! During the night, either I don't sleep well at all, and wake up an absurd amount of times, or I sleep pretty soundly and STILL wake up exhausted! I think it's all pretty par for the course, though, and honestly I just need to make it through Friday. :) Just think... next week? If I get tired, I can TAKE A NAP!
I think this stage of pregnancy has it's purpose, though. For one, it assures me that she is, in fact, getting bigger and preparing to greet the world! Also, it's really getting ME ready for her arrival, because the discomfort has me now feeling like, "okay, enough of this, I'm ready for labor already!" (something I was NOT yet ready to say a few weeks ago!)

We were kind of just practice for her, as she's really wanting to do photography professionally, and I think she'd be very successful. (especially in this area) I'm just SO glad that we'll have these pictures to look back on and remember this time in our lives.

It's my LAST WEEK OF WORK! I absolutely cannot believe how fast the time has gone. With this day nearly over, I've only got 4 more work days left. Crazy. Everyone here has been a little sad today, especially after the e-mail went out about how I'm leaving, and how they've hired my replacement.
Speaking of my replacement, I was supposed to start training her today at 2:30. She's currently a nanny, and put in her two weeks' notice last Friday, but she was trying to work it out so she could do training with me for a few days this week. Today didn't work out. So, now the plan is that she'll be here on Wednesday and Thursday. Not much time, but we'll have to make it work!
Our weekend was nice. :) While Ryan sanded away at baby girl's soon-to-be-new dresser on Saturday, I ran out and finally got my hair cut. It needed it; it had been a good 4 months or so since I'd had it trimmed. I had split ends on split ends on split ends. Yes, it really was that bad. No, really, I'm not joking. My poor hair.
I felt a little daring, and had her chop off a solid 4 inches or more from my hair. (you never know the exact length... they always get scissor-happy when someone with long hair walks through the door.) I even had her put in some angles, which I'm happy about now, because it's not all one length.
Of course, I feel like it's super short, even though it's still considered "long" by everyone else. You'll get to see for yourself in this week's belly picture!
I've got a pretty full week ahead of me, and I'm excited about it! On Thursday, we'll finally have our hospital tour. (which I should've scheduled way earlier, but thankfully baby girl has been gracious enough to hold off on her debut thus far) Then Friday is my last day of work, and I'm thinking about baking some sort of goodies to bring in. Maybe something easy, though, like cookies.
Then, Saturday is my friends & family baby shower! I am SO excited about it! I have absolutely no clue what I'll be wearing yet, but considering only about 3 things fit me anymore, it shouldn't take too long to decide. Okay, so that's a slight exaggeration, but not by much. I feel like my belly is growing by leaps and bounds!
Ryan is grilling out tonight, which I'm really looking forward to! The man can grill. On Saturday he grilled up BBQ chicken, and baked potatoes... both turned out perfectly! And get this.. he's picking up a bag of charcoal on his way home, because, in his words, "I don't want you lifting it." :) Bless him. Delicious dinner tonight!
Happy Friday to you all!! I'm actually feeling a million times better today, which I think is partially due to being able to rest again yesterday evening, and finally getting some decent sleep! I only woke up two times instead of, er, five or six.
I woke up the second time because I was having a contraction, which I finally realized was due to the position I had been sleeping in. I gave up switching from one side to the other, and had fallen asleep with my back propped up on a bunch of pillows, with a few under my legs. I realized, though, that when I do wake up in the middle of the night because of a contraction, I've always been in that position! It never happens if I'm laying on my side. Interesting, no?
Well, my appointment went pretty well, I guess. My doctor did all the routine checks, and also did the group B strep test. Then she mentioned that she'll check me for progress starting next week. "Darn, I thought that started this week," I told her. "Well, I can check now if you'd like me to," she said. So, she checked, but unfortunately, zero progress. Sure, I know it's still early, but hearing that there was NO progress was a little disappointing!
Ryan brought in our new table for the nursery, and put it together last night. It's adorable! What can I say? The man has good taste. :)
His real project, though, starts this weekend! We finally made the decision to take the dresser that I've had since I was just a little thing, and re-paint it white to match the nursery. (it's currently just a natural finish, no paint) Ryan's going to sand it down, prime it, and paint it. Then I'm going to pick out some new drawer pulls for it. I think it's going to be really great to have a piece of furniture in our little girl's room which we can tell her that I've used since I was little. Plus, it's a really sturdy, well-made, all-wood dresser, so it'll be nice to restore some life into it. :)
Wow. Exactly one week from now I'll be here for my final day of work. Can you believe it?! For those of you who asked about whether or not I will still be updating once I'm at home, the answer is YES! Are you kidding? I'm going to have so many pictures and stories to share! :) We're probably going to hold off a little while on getting internet at home, but we have an "internet cafe" in our complex, and we're able to get internet on Ryan's laptop. So.. the time that I update may change, but I will absolutely keep updating. :)
Also, the only reason I'd renew my ryan-and-emily.com web domain would be so I can upload and display pictures. It's not really connected to my journal here. But after I asked yesterday if I should maybe change that name, I started wondering if maybe I should change the web address for my journal, too! I hadn't really thought about it. We'll see.
Another sleepy morning, but I'm very happy it's Thursday already! I was worried that my last two weeks of work would drag on, but that thankfully has not been the case at all. I can't believe I only have 6 more work days after today...
Yesterday I honestly was just trying to make it home after work without falling asleep. I was so tired all day, and could barely keep my eyes open to watch the road. Real safe, huh? As soon as I got home, I nestled in on the couch, and stayed there pretty much all evening. I only got up to make dinner. That's it. I haven't done that in... well... a long, long time. I feel like I'm back in my first trimester with how exhausted I am!
Ryan was out on the road with one of his sales reps for most of the day yesterday, and one of the jobsites was at the local mall. (They've been doing a LOT of new construction there as of late.) Well, Ryan stopped in to the Bombay Kids store, because they were having a huge going-out-of-business sale. He called me to let me know that he found a cute, white sidetable to go next to our glider, and asked if he should get it. Because it was marked down, it was even cheaper than the one I had been eyeing at Target! So, of course, he got it. :)
Well, wouldn't you know it... he had his hands full when he came in last night, so he didn't bring it in from the car, and I totally forgot about it! So, I still haven't seen it yet, but I'm sure it's very cute. Slowly but surely, our nursery is coming together. :)
I'm not sure how many of you have noticed, but my links that go anywhere on ryan-and-emily.com do not work. That includes our wedding pictures, Cabo pictures, honeymoon pictures, etc. That's because, after having the website for two years, I didn't renew my registration for it. I'm still trying to decide if I do want to renew it, or maybe get a new domain name, (since it won't be just us in another month) or if I should even get a new website at all. Thoughts? If I got an entirely new domain name, I don't have many ideas of what I'd call it. Ideas?
I have my 36 week doctor's appointment today! My Dr. will do the Group B strep test, and also check for progress, if any. Ohhh, it's already been a rough morning. You know me, though, it's hard to get me down! :) I'm trying to stay peppy and positive, but after my night last night, it's a little difficult! I seriously was waking up every hour to change position due to my hips or knees (yes, knees) aching, or having to get up to use the bathroom. I decided to cave and get myself some caffeine this morning on my way to work to perk me up, but uh, I think they forgot to add the perky-ness to my drink. It had absolutely no affect. (But it was delicious!)
I now know what I'll be doing with my two week "break" before I'm due... SLEEPING! Well, if I can, that is. :) I just know I'm being prepared for the months to come!
I'm 36 weeks today! That means I've got a mere 4 weeks, give or take, till baby girl arrives. 4 weeks... less than a month... only 28 days! I'll try to get Ryan to take a belly picture tonight, because I'm hoping you'll be able to tell that she has dropped a bit. :) I'm still not waddling yet, though, so thank goodness for small blessings. I also want to get pictures taken of the nursery, because it looks a lot different now!
For those that asked, no, they haven't hired my replacement yet, but my boss has interviewed a countless number of candidates. I don't think it will take very much longer! If they're able to hire someone this week, I'd have all of next week to train them. (my boss originally wanted 3 weeks' worth of training time with me, but it hasn't worked out that way!)
As my due date approaches, and especially after seeing Krissy's baby boy on Sunday, Ryan has become more protective of me. :) It's really sweet. He'll call just to see how I'm feeling, or insist that I "sit down already!" :) One night he even had me rest on the couch (despite my offers to help) while he cooked and put dinner together on his own. (something he'd never done since we got married!) As if that wasn't great enough, he even emptied the clean dishes from the dishwasher, loaded the dirty ones after dinner, and cleaned up the kitchen! (Just so you know how monumental that is, he HATES anything to do with the dishwasher.) Yes, I know, I have an incredible husband. :)
We just had a client in the office a moment ago. Bless his heart, he said to me, "so you have, what, about 3 months to go?" I told him, "actually, I have just 4 weeks left!" What I wanted to say was, "bless you." :) How funny is it that being told I only look like I'm 6 months pregnant while I'm actually 9 months is such a tremendous compliment?
Well, we had another wonderful weekend. :) My morning was made even better when I spoke with my Mom this morning, specifically when she mentioned that I only have ONE more Monday to wake up early for. After that, I'll be patiently waiting for my little girl's arrival without worrying about, say, my water breaking at work. (hey, you have to think about those kinds of situations!)
A coworker asked me this morning if I'm starting to get "short timer's syndrome." I wasn't quite following, so I asked what she meant. "You know, since you only have two work weeks left," she told me. I guess she meant some sort of thing like senioritis, only with work instead of college. :) To be honest, though, I'm not finding it any harder to concentrate, nor am I less motivated than before. If anything, I want to make sure I do a good, thorough job now, so I don't leave any loose ends when I leave. I love it here, and I don't want to do a poor job for them, you know?
We worked on the nursery on Saturday, which was SO needed, and it looks SO much better! It looks more like a room now. :) We hung up all of our pictures, and the quilt rack, and I organized the closet and such. I plan on taking pictures soon. :)
But! I have even more exciting news than that!
Yesterday morning, I got a call from my coworker, Krissy's sister, who let me know that Krissy had her baby boy! A definite shock to everyone! See, she was due August 3rd, but they planned on inducing her on July 27th. Well, as of last Tuesday she was already 4 cm dilated! So, they upped her induction to this Thursday, the 19th. Well, wouldn't you know it, that little boy was not waiting any longer. :) He was born at 1:15 AM on Sunday morning.
Ryan & I both went and visited Krissy, her hubby Jason, and little Braden yesterday. He is absolutely adorable, and has a head full of dark hair! I got to hold him, as he slept peacefully, making cute little faces. And of course, I took pictures. :) I sent out a company-wide e-mail this morning announcing his birth, and it's always better if you have a picture to share, you know?

I know now that I must be getting closer to the end. My coworker, who is due two weeks before me, is being induced next Thursday, (less than a week away!) and today's her last day of work. It's bittersweet. On the one hand, I'm absolutely thrilled for her that she's having her baby boy. On the other hand, I'm sad that I won't see her every day, and get to talk to her about our pregnancies!
I'm actually in disbelief that we're at the end already. It seems like only yesterday when she told me about her pregnancy while I was waiting patiently to find out if our first month had been successful!
As of today, I have two more weeks of work left. They haven't hired a replacement for me yet, but hopefully that will happen soon, so I can start training them. There's a lot of ground to cover. Of course I'll be sad to leave, but I'll be very happy to be done with work, for a few reasons.
For one? One of my (very few) work shirts which still fits literally decided to self-destruct this morning. I had already put it on, and the opaque under-layer decided to tear away at the seam, leaving an inch gap on one side of the shirt. Lovely. I honestly had nothing else I could wear, so I adjusted it a bit so it's not-so-noticeable, and just need to make it through the day!
I had the craziest craving yesterday afternoon for bisquick biscuits, specifically with honey. Random. Thankfully a grocery store run was already on the agenda after I got off from work! Other things I'm enjoying right now are Fruity Pebbles, (seriously hadn't had them since I was a kid!) watermelon, and Carnation instant breakfasts. (the powder kind) I can't get enough milk. I recently replaced my frappaccinos with those instant breakfast things (two, instead of one, since they only have 150 calories, and baby needs more than that!) and it's waaay better for both of us. Sure, they don't make me nearly as perky, but they have lots of protein and calcium.
I found out a couple days ago that I have, in fact, experienced some contractions. I'd had Braxton Hicks before, but honestly had no clue what actual contractions are supposed to feel like. I had experienced some pains, not knowing what they were, but after reading a post on The Nest about what contractions feel like, the mystery is solved! And here I had been worried that I hadn't experienced any sort of end-of-the-tunnel symptoms. :) I know I still have a little ways to go, but that's okay by me.

Well, we're back from the beach, and we had a GREAT time! There's really nothing quite like the beach. :) I've been to quite a few beaches on the east coast, but Virginia Beach always reminds me of family vacations, and brings back good memories.. so it's extra special for that reason. For Ryan and I, though, this was actually the first time we had been to VA beach together!
We arrived pretty early on Sunday morning, thanks to no traffic whatsoever, and headed straight out to the beach. It was definitely hot during the whole trip, (it was supposed to reach 100 yesterday, but it mainly stayed around 93 or 94 while we were there) and, as Virginia weather typically is, it was very humid! On the beach, though, there was always a breeze, so it was enjoyable. :) We left at a good time, too.. thisis the forecast for the next 10 days!!!
We stayed at the Hilton the first night, which, I have to admit, was very nice... it was pretty much the nicest hotel on the beach, and just built in '05. We never stayed anywhere like that on family vacations!! The hotel was beautiful, our room was great, (the bathroom, especially, was awesome! I loved the steam shower!) they had a rooftop infinity pool and hot tub, which had incredible views, and we just overall enjoyed it there.
The second night, though, we stayed at the Fairfield Marriott. Honestly, I instantly felt at home! It felt more like the Virgina Beach experience that I know and love. :) The staff was a lot more friendly there, our room was ready 4 hours early, our request for a high-level room was fulfilled, and I actually think I enjoyed the experience there better than at the Hilton! They also a had a free breakfast, which I think was the best breakfast I've ever had at a hotel. I could definitely see us having family vacations there. :)
We had seafood both nights, and the best was at this place called Captain George's. Oh my goodness, GREAT seafood! You can't come to the beach and not have seafood, you know? That'd just be wrong. The atmosphere at the other place we ate at, called Rockafeller's, was really enjoyable, though. We were on a second-floor deck, overlooking the water, and the weather was perfect.
We did lots and lots of walking... past all of the shops, (and I didn't buy a thing!) and along the beach. My feet are still tired today! Oh, wait, I did buy something: sunglasses, $9.99. I somehow lost mine somewhere! I really liked them, too. Ryan's happy, though, because he finally got me to buy a big pair of sunglasses. :) I picked a pair that wasn't obnoxiously large, and actually liked them. He REALLY wanted me to get a big pair of those white sunglasses, but I drew the line there!
So, I'm sure what you all really want to see are the pictures, and I won't disappoint. :) I uploaded them as soon as we got home last night and got unpacked! Let me tell you, I am so ecstatic that Friday is already here! It's honestly a very good thing that the week went by as quickly as it did. Usually, when you're anticipating something, the days leading up to it seem to drag on forever. (Or is that just me?) After today, I won't be working again until Wednesday. :) Ahhhh... it will be wonderful!
One of the gifts Krissy and I both received at the baby shower our company threw us was a gift certificate to a very nice spa here in town for a pedicure! A VERY thoughtful gift, considering, uh, I can't reach my toes anymore. :) Krissy already used hers, and said it was WONDERFUL! I've got mine scheduled for tomorrow afternoon, so I'll have pretty toes for the beach. :)
I had my 34 week appointment yesterday, which went just fine. I'm measuring at exactly 34 weeks, not having any signs of preterm labor, and baby girl's heartbeat was in the 150's. (she was moving around!) I think she must enjoy the appointments, because she's always active during them. :) I have my 36 week appointment on July 19th, (having the Group B test done at that one) then they'll be scheduling me for weekly appointments. We're getting so close!!
Well, Ryan and I will be leaving bright and early (I'm talking early!) on Sunday morning for the beach, and we'll be staying till Tuesday. We'll be packing in as much beachy goodness as we can in those 3 days and 2 nights!

This trip will be our last little hoorah before baby girl gets here. :) Going to the beach will be just a little different after she's born! I'll be back to work on Wednesday, and will definitely have some pictures to share of the trip. :)
Okay, how awesome is my husband? He just sent me an e-mail saying how good the toasted bagel I sent with him for breakfast was, and thanking me for being an "amazingly wonderful wife." Now if that can't make my day, I don't know what would! The little things make all the difference. I may be just a teensy bit biased, but I think he's pretty wonderful.
We had a GREAT 4th of July!! Our guests were running a bit late, so we actually went to Lowes and bought a few plants for our deck. :) We had to find some that could handle "full sun," because anything else just won't survive out there. You'd probably be surprised how busy Lowes can be on a holiday!
In any event, the cookout was a lot of fun, and everyone had actually just come inside from the deck right before it started to rain. There apparently was a tornado warning for the DC area, so we were a little worried that fireworks may be cancelled. The news was showing that our county was in the clear, so we drove out to see the fireworks, and hoped for the best. Finally, the rain stopped about 40 minutes before they were scheduled to start! :) Rain and all aside, they didn't disappoint this year! Ryan even recorded the fireworks with our camcorder this time around, which turned out pretty well.
I don't know about you, but I would love to vote for having Wednesdays off EVERY week! It really wasn't bad coming to work today, knowing that there are only two days left till the weekend. :) A lot of people have the rest of the week off, but I honestly don't mind working after a holiday. Practically no one was on the road, parking was a breeze, and the office is usually pretty quiet.

34 Weeks!
You know, it's really getting humbling to keep posting these! Obviously my belly has gotten a lot bigger since the last picture I posted. (whenever that was) Hard to believe we only have 6 weeks left!

#1: Got a company e-mail earlier today saying that we could leave at 3:00 today!!!!! Reason #3,423,456 why I love this company. Seriously.
#2: Ryan and I will be spending an extra day and night at Virginia Beach next week! Yes!
#3: Holiday tomorrow!! Thank goodness for a day off, huh? Ryan invited one of his sales reps, Andy, and his girlfriend, over to our place for a cook out, then Ryan and I will definitely be going to see the fireworks tomorrow night. :)
Okay, side story: Ryan nearly proposed to me on the 4th of July in 2005. Did I ever mention that? After he actually DID propose to me, (on July 23rd) he told me that he had originally planned on asking me on the 4th. As it turned out, though, it would've been less-than-perfect timing, since my grandma was in the hospital then. We spent many long hours there, not to mention he hadn't had a chance to get my Dad's approval before then. July 23rd was MUCH better timing!
#4: I'm 34 weeks tomorrow. :) To put that into perspective, I actually was born 6 weeks premature, at 34 weeks! Hopefully this little girl doesn't get any ideas! :)
Since I'll obviously be gone tomorrow, I want to take this chance to wish you all a very happy 4th of July!

Good mornin'! Well, we had a very nice weekend, which we spent down with Ryan's family again. Since I'm getting closer and closer to my due date, it'll probably be our last trip down there until after baby girl is born! Is that hard to believe, or what?
They advise pregnant women not to travel after 34 weeks, to make sure they're close to their hospital of choice should they go into pre-term labor. We'll be traveling to Virginia Beach this coming weekend (cannot wait!!) but that's only about a 2 1/2-3 hour drive anyway. After that, I'll pretty much stay put till she gets here. :)
Well, I got into work this morning, and my office absolutely reeks. It's an old, historic building, and they've had problems in the past with critters crawling into the walls, and dying. Yeah, I'm pretty positive that's what happened again. It's disgusting! Pest control will hopefully be here sometime today. Not a pleasant way to start out the morning, you know?
In other news, the day has finally come... my belly is outgrowing my work shirts!! Two of them officially no longer fit my growing-every-day belly. One has chiffon overlay, and is just too tight, while the other is cotton, and is too short now. I wish I could say I was never warned that this could happen, but that'd be a lie. My Mom went shopping with me to find my work shirts, and she told me, "you may want to get a size larger... that probably won't fit you later on." Of course, having zero perspective myself, all I could focus on was the vast amount of fabric surrounding my not-yet-big-enough belly, and I chose to get the smaller size.
Yeah, well, Mom was right. Now I'll just try to make it by with what I have... I don't want to have to go out and buy a couple of shirts that I'll only need for 4 more weeks! :)
On that note, I should definitely have Ryan take a belly picture on Wednesday. :) My belly has gotten bigger, that's for sure. I still get, "you're not very big for how far along you are," comments, but I feel huge!
