This time tomorrow, Ryan and I will be on a flight bound for Cabo, San Lucas! We'll be staying at this hotel for 7 nights, and 7 warm, sunny days. You can find lots of info on Cabo, San Lucas here, or check out our forecasted weather here. There are lots of things we're interested in seeing and doing, but mainly, we're just looking forward to getting away, relaxing, and enjoying each other. A second honeymoon of sorts!
While we're gone, feel free to check out our Wedding Pictures, or the pictures from our Honeymoon! When we return, I will be bearing lots and lots of pictures from our trip! I will miss you all very much, but I will try to catch up on all of you once we're back home. Please pray that we have a safe flight there and back! Hope you all have a wonderful weekend and a fabulous week!
After leaving work on Friday, I met up with Ryan at his office, and we headed to the church, where we had volunteered to help out with an evening function. I had thought it was just a small thing--an appreciation dinner for the deacons and their wives, or something. Haha! It turned out to be quite the to-do, with 150-ish people invited. This week is our missions conference week, and Friday night was basically the kick-off. All of our missionaries, our elders, our deacons, and their wives and children.. all were there. We were given about half an hour's worth of instructions, and then got to work setting everything up. I was very glad that I was "stationed" next to Ryan when we served the dinner, since he has experience with serving and what not. :) We met some new people, and had a lot of fun! We got home around 11 or so, and were absolutely exhausted--but it was so worth it!
Ryan had to leave by 9:45 AM on Saturday to head to work. I figured I'd be up early enough to get ready and go with him, since my car was still at his office from the night before. Yeah, um, we didn't wake up till 9:30!!!
After he left, I got myself up and showered... and still decided to head out to run some errands, like I had planned--without a car. I needed to 1) find a pair of "dressy" flat sandals, 2) go tanning, and 3) get some groceries. Thankfully, our apartment is nestled next to a somewhat large shopping complex, so I figured I'd be okay walking. The weather, however, was not so cooperative! It was windy as anything, and pretty chilly. Didn't help that I walking into the wind. Ah well, good exercise! :) Plus, I wound up checking off everything from my list!
Ryan worked later than he had planned... he, along with one of his sales reps, was painting a single office within his office for his new project coordinator, who was starting today. So, I started reading a new book my mother-in-law sent me called, Loving God With All Your Mind. Awesome book! 100 pages later, Ryan got home. :)
We watched lots of basketball, (holy cow, George Mason U., which I attended, beat UNC!) and tried to get some relaxing in. I worked out again on Sunday afternoon--knowing there is less than a week to go is complete motivation! :) We are so excited... I checked the forecast this morning.. 25th-27th--Sunny, Sunny, and more Sunny! 85 & 86 degrees. Ryan woke me up this morning, saying, "5 days, and we'll be in Cabo.." :-D
Yes, that's SNOW they're calling for on the day after the beginning of spring!
And, Oh yeah, Cabo's Forecast:
A warm, sunny 85 degrees on the day we arrive!!!
We really don't have any weekend plans yet, but we'll be helping out at a church function this evening after work. We'll be cooking/serving for an event held for the deacons and their wives. Aside from that, I'm really not sure what we'll be up to. :)
So, I'm not Irish, so this holiday really doesn't mean a thing to me. Not wearing green, clothes-wise, but I'm wearing a smidgen of light green eyeshadow, which my coworker said looks really pretty. :) In any event, Happy St. Patrick's Day, and more importantly, Happy Friday to you all! :)
I had just walked in the door, and was about to change for the gym, when Ryan called. He asked if we got a package in the mail. "Nooo... are we expecting any?" Apparently, get-ready-for-Cabo packages had been sent out, and one of his coworkers had received his.
Not one minute had passed after I hung up the phone when I heard a knock at the door. CABO PACKAGE!!! Eeeee!!
It was HUGE!!! Ryan forbid me from opening it before he got home, so I headed off to the gym. We got home around the same time, and he did the honors.
GOODIES!!! :)
They gave us sunglasses...
And two big, beach towels! (photoshopped out his company name. Heh)
The theme this year is "Survivor," obviously. So they sent us two shirts!
Ryan trying out his Survivor buff. :) I got a yellow one.
Checking out our booklet with our itinerary, and suggested things to do and see while in Cabo!
It's official... we have plane tickets!!!! (please excuse my post-gym appearance)
Total, they sent us two beach towels, two shirts, a pair of flip flops for each of us, two pairs of sunglasses, two Survivor buffs, two bottles of sunscreen, and a big, beach bag. Plus, our info booklet, our plane tickets, and "Continental Airlines Currency," which we can use on the flights.
Just 9 days to go now. I am so glad they didn't send this package earlier than now, or I don't think I would make it. :) We are soooo excited!
Ryan completely surprised me last night by calling me as I was on my way home from work, and asking if he could take me out to dinner. :) Very, very unexpected surprise! So, we picked Red Lobster because their commercials have looked really good lately. (we haven't had seafood in a long, long, long time.)
Appetizer of lobster rolls, margarita for him, strawberry daiquiri for me, the shrimp trio for him, and the dockside chicken and shrimp for me. Mmmm-mmm good! (Anyone hungry?) It was so fun to not do the usual nightly routine. :) And of course, another upside to having dinner out... left-overs for lunch!
Okay, so it got up to nearly 85 yesterday, and it's somehow in the 50's today. Yesterday was so perfect, with the sunroof open, and the bright sunshine. Mmm, I'm ready for warm weather.
11 days left till Cabo! (Dang, just had a thought... definitely no more eating out till after we get back!) We're kinda sorta hoping that this 50-degree weather will take a hike by the time we get back. :)
Getting busy over here.. auditors are in the office till at least Friday. (= most likely more work for me) Hope you all have a great day! :)
The weekend was fabulous. I made almond-crusted chicken, garlic mashed potatoes, and green beans for our 3 month anniversary dinner on Friday night, then we went to the theater for the opening of Failure to Launch. Pretty funny movie, despite the mostly bad reviews, but hello, Terry Bradshaw! Definitely didn't need to see that! Ewww.
Us before we left for the movie :)
Ryan didn't have to work on Saturday, so we finally went to the bank and had my account switched to a joint account, ordered new "Mr & Mrs" checks, and all that good stuff. :) It'll be nice not having two accounts to keep track of anymore.
After the bank, we went to the outlets, which is an outdoor mall. The weather was so amazing, so we walked around, and shopped, along with the other 1,589,657 people who thought it was a nice day for the outlets, too. :)
Sunday... after church, we went over to my parents' house for some lunch. While Ryan watched the race with my Dad, I worked out on the recumbent bike upstairs. One hour, 16 miles, and 430 calories later, I was exhausted! Only 12 days left till CABO, after all :)
Us on Sunday :)
So, that was our weekend in a nutshell. It's supposed to get to over 80 degrees today!! Will definitely be having lunch outdoors today. :) Hope you all had a great weekend, and I hope that it's a great day!
What a perfect day! Amazingly warm, sunny weather... and it's FRIDAY. Going to be celebrating tonight with dinner at home, and going out to a surprise movie after. :) Hope you all have a GREAT weekend!!
Our evening was really very nice. :) Ryan surprised me by getting home early! By the time I had gone tanning, picked up a couple various things at the grocery store, and stopped by the drycleaners, he was home! So we both went to the gym together. :) I love when we're able to work out together--it's a huge motivation for me. After we got home, I made steak, rice, and steamed broccoli for dinner, and we watched American Idol.
Before falling asleep, I unknowingly made the mistake about talking about a topic that really gets Ryan going. I mean, really, how was I to know that he'd get so worked up over business versus casual dress code? :) Guess you had to be there, but it was really funny. We can both be a little on the stubborn side, but when it comes to dealing with each other, we both bend pretty easily. Laughter is amazing. My husband is incredible. God is so good to us. That pretty much sums it all up.
The whole dress code conversation originated from me telling him that I have a big meeting this morning. It's a mandatory, company-wide meeting with 3 PBT people in senior management, including the VP, HR director, and a senior associate. We really have no idea what it's about, but I'm hoping it includes all good updates on our merging status, and the future of our newly-joined company. I know most people here have been wondering if we'll get better benefits, too. (Our healthcare plan has been perfect for me, but I guess if you have kids it's a little different) So, that's at 10:00, and will go till 11:30. Please pray that it goes well. :)
Well, I need to get a few things done before the meeting. Hope you all have a wonderful day!
This morning could've started out very badly. Thankfully, Ryan called me on his way to work to tell me there was a really bad accident on the road we both take to work, and that I should go a totally different way. Apparently it was backed up out the wazoo. I later heard that there was an overturned vehicle, and four ambulances at the scene. Only one open lane for three lanes of traffic to get by. (I really hope everyone was okay.) So, needless to say, I'm really thankful that there are multiple ways to get to work! :)
Today more than ever, it hit me that spring is definitely on it's way! Between the early, early sunrise, and the increasingly warmer temps. Best part--there was a really pretty robin singing in the tree right outside of my office building. There's something to put a smile on your face! Plus, we're absolutely breaking out the shorts this weekend, as they're calling for weather in the 70's. 70's!! Here!! We just had snow showers the other day!
So, I also have reserved two passes for Ryan and I go to see this little guy....
Awwwwwwww! Little Tai-shan. I've been wanting to go since December, so it's about time we finally go! :) I haven't been to the zoo since I was a kid. I totally forgot that it's free, too. (You just either pay for parking or for the metro) Either way, it should be fun! We have reserved passes for April 29th. Yes, that's way far away, but I wanted to make sure it won't interfere with any of our plans.. and it'll be nice and warm by then, too. :)
Thank you for your comments on yesterday's entry--I really appreciated that. I think it's really so important to always remember what you're thankful for, because it makes the good times better, and puts the hard times in perspective. Have a great day! :)
I am really thankful for hertoday. I am thankful for the friends that God puts in your life to uplift, and encourage you, showing you His love and His goodness. That's the kind of friend she is! Plus, we just plain have fun together.
Tell me, tell me :) What are YOU thankful for today? (both little or big!)
At last, our wedding pictures are back up and running! If you remember, my host just up and disappeared one morning, and now, over a month and a half later, they're back, but on a different server..which meant I had to upload all my files and pictures all over again. Some pictures aren't showing up, but the kinks should be worked out within 24 hours..
So, anyway, our weekend was really nice. We drove out to Fair Oaks Mall on Friday evening, which Ryan had never been to before. It was like a walk down memory lane for me, since it's where my Mom used to take us when my brother and I were really little. Back when I couldn't pronounce "Fair Oaks," and instead called it, "Smacks Small." Yeah, I have no good explanations for that one. :)
We bought a few things.. two shirts for Ryan, and a pair of $12 sandals for me. :) We had a really, really fun time. I can't even remember the last time we went to the mall together... probably before the wedding, to take a look at tuxes? Yep, it has been a while.
While Ryan worked early Saturday morning, I got to work cleaning, dusting, vacuuming, doing laundry, organizing, etc etc etc. We checked out my brother's new condo, we went to the gym together, we watched a couple movies, and we took a 3 hour nap. (oops!) All the makings of a really nice, really relaxing yet productive weekend. :)
Hope you all had a great weekend, and I hope it's a really good day for you all!
Work has taken precedence over my journal-writing time lately.. sorry. :) Never been so crazy busy in my life. I'm sure I've mentioned that enough lately.
Weekend should be pretty fun. :) Ryan is working a little bit tomorrow, soI'll be heading out to check out my brother's new condo, which he'll be moving into on the day Ryan and I leave for Cabo. (which is a mere three weeks away!!!!) Anyway, my brother, my Mom and I are going to go check it out together, since my brother wants some decorating/furniture advice. He wants me to go furniture/decor shopping with him soon, and I'm looking forward to that, too. :) My brother and I were close growing up, since we're only a year and a half apart, but we've sorta drifted apart since he does his thing, and I got married. So this'll be fun. :)
I called Ryan yesterday to see if he found out what the "dress code" for the awards ceremony in Cabo will be. Well, turns out there's the one, main banquet, which I'll need a long, "not too formal, but dressy" dress for. However... there are also two other dinners we'll apparently be attending. Three total. So, I need two "tropical," "fun" type dresses, and a long dress that won't cost me an arm and a leg. This "free" trip is gradually becoming not-so-free! I'm hoping nothing else will come up that we still need.
So, I'm meeting Ryan at his office after I get off from work, and we're going to head over to the mall to browse a bit. And let me tell ya, it takes quite a husband to actually suggest going shopping!
Well, the Dr's appointment turned out to be much-ado-about-nothing. They took my weight, checked my blood pressure, asked a couple questions, and voila--a prescription for the next 12 months. (They had given me 3 months of free packs, back in December)
However, I was very pleasantly surprised! After the weight/blood pressure check, my Dr. came in, and announced, "Well! You've lost 6 pounds since your last visit." I had my one and only appointment with them on Dec. 5th--5 days before our wedding. I guess this diet has paid off already! I was floating on air after my appointment (which lasted all of 15 minutes from the time I arrived)... and put in another good workout at the gym, since I was so encouraged.
During the brief time I sat on the examing table waiting for my Dr., I glanced around the room at all the different things hanging on the wall. There's a really cute portrait next to the table, which is a close-up shot of a "brand new," just-born infant, and the proud, new Daddy, kissing the baby's head. It's precious. Then a framed list caught my eye.. it was called "I Am Not A Feminist, But..." It went on to say, very tongue-in-cheek, things like, "I'm pretty happy that I'm allowed to vote," or, "I'm thankful I can own land in my own name"--all things that most people wouldn't argue are indeed good things. But the one that really got me... "I'm glad that I'm able to control how many babies I want to have."
That one just made me ill.
I'm not a big fan of talk radio in the morning. Most of the time, I just want to hear some music, not some obnoxious radio personality talking about what he did over the weekend. At 7:15 AM, I really couldn't care less. But today, as I was scanning stations, I stopped on 105.1, which, unbeknownst to me, airs a Focus on the Family segment with Dr. Dobson from 7-7:30. In light of my appointment just yesterday, I kept it on the station because they were talking about abortion.
Apparently, today is national Women's Day? Didn't know this. Anyway, they had a woman on who wanted announce some good news... apparently, they have funded a new program that puts ultrasound units in crisis pregnancy centers... 200 centers now have units, to date. Women who come in these clinics, dead-set on having abortions, are able to see their little babies on these ultrasound units.... to date, over 10,000 babies that would've otherwise been aborted have been spared because their mommies fell in love with them on the screen. How powerful is that?
